Best Halloween gadget costume - iPhone

Why didn't I think of dressing up as my iPhone 3G for Halloween? (Maybe because a witches hat is as creative as I ever get.)
This clever apps guy went all out. It only looks like your iPhone at first glance. Check out this closer pic to see some of the more, uh, unusual apps not available at the Apple store.

Eenamaria - Chelsea Boi Collection

Not for you the mundane, boring baby bag. You prize the Mondrian-inspired Chelsea Boi collection, named after the artsy NY area and the 60s Page Boy haircuts (think Twiggy.)
Made from patent vinyl, the bags range from clutch-stylish to weekender bags, and this stylish baby bag. Bright and cheerful, it boasts 2 exterior zipper pockets, 2 exterior end pockets and a detachable shoulder strap .
It won't replace your diaper bag though - it doesn't have a changing pad built in and the outside pockets won't fit a bottle. But, as it's completely waterproof, it makes a great second bag. Afterall, as we all know, we usually travel with a U-Haul full of stuff for baby.

$70 at Career Bags, one of our favorite places to buy the latest style bags.

DeviDoll - Fashionable online eco-boutique

[First published in Spire]
For Sindhu Venkatanarayanan, the earth is her catwalk. The passionate and knowledgeable London-based founder of the online boutique DeviDoll has assembled a selection of super-stylish labels that warrants just as much attention from fashion editors as it does from the Sierra Club. In my opinion, there is no better niche Website focused on this growing arena. Everything is exquisitely tailored and made from eco-friendly fabrics, such as organic cotton, vintage cashmere, soy, Tencel and bamboo. In addition to cute dresses, blazers, tops, jeans and even bustiers, you'll find sassy hats and bags made of re-appropriated or sustainable fabric. Sindhu's real talent is her ability to hone in on and scoop up emerging talent. In Europe, many of the designers are exclusive to DeviDoll, the only European e-retailer specializing in high-end green fashion. Shipment is available globally, in biodegradable packaging, naturally.

Senior Airbags - to wear!

I don't think Granny would ever stoop to wearing airbags around the house, just in case of a fall.
The Tokyo-based company, Prop, created the airbags to protect elders head and hips, the most vulnerable areas, but also for those with epilepsy, who are prone to sudden - and dangerous - falls.
This attractive device works by inflating if it starts moving quickly towards the ground. Electric sensors feel the movement and activate the airbags. As soon as the alarm is set off, 15 litres of compressed air are injected into the inflatable pads - puffing them up to protect the most vulnerable parts of the body.
Japan has a large elderly population, with nearly 30 million people over the age of 65, hence the huge market for "senior" products .Click on this BBC link for a video of the airbags in action.
Though the cushions only weigh 2 and a half pounds each, I don't think Granny is going to fall for it.

Dots gloves let you tap your touchscreens without getting cold hands

It may not be winter yet, but when things turn chilly, you're not going to want to yank your gloves off just to tap out a text message on your touchscreen. That's where dots come in: they are gloves with built-in (but discreet) small metal dots on the end of three of the fingers and they promise not to scratch the touchscreen device of your choice. Choose from a left- or right-handed pair, in a choice of colors for $10 from Dots Gloves.

Apple patents smartshoe with GPS

Looks like Apple’s collaboration with Nike will continue for some more time to come. And there’s some proof with Apple’s latest patent filing, which apparently is going to slide into the next version of the Nike+ shoes.
This latest patent brings to light technologies which make use of sensors and GPS systems built-into the shoes. For starters, the built-in GPS (ofcourse) will guide you with the route while you are running. Prior to your workout, the GPS system can be fed with information such as bike routes, jogging trails etc. to help you chart your course. Plus, it could also store performance details such as running time vs. a particular shoe or shoe design, or how the shoe has worn over time.
And in true Apple style, that’s not all. The patent describes the sensors as being able to perform a multitude of functions. As an example, you could pre-program the system with the locations of your favorite restaurants, and the sensors will let you know as soon as you are approaching one. For another, they could even let you know if it is time to, ahem…retire your shoes.
We bet there will be plenty of takers for the Nike+ if/when it does show up with such provisions. But for now, we will let time do the talking.

Tech-Chic - Vivienne Tam Runway NP Notebook

Earlier this week, New York hosted the glittery Vivienne Tam runway show at Bryant Park . . . gorgeous, bright dresses in delicious fabrics, but what caught our eyes was the matching HP notebook, only slightly smaller than a conventional clutch!
We asked Ms. Tam about the parntership with HP: "The design blends Asian & Western cultures, antiquity and modern styles, technology and fashion – it’s my personal mantra to both live well and be beautiful."

With gleaming red peony flowers, it is totally a designer original, but with the guts of an HP notebook. The HP Vivienne Tam Special Edition notebook is expected to be available early next year, but no word yet on the pricing.
For those of you who can't get enough, here's the YouTube link.
The dresses? If you have to ask, . . .

LightMate: the new lighting solution (or, um, companion)

I love artistic innovation: the world would be a much more boring place had people like John Lennon, Frida Kahlo or Andy Warhol never been born.
Having said that, I don't always understand where artists/innovators are coming from, and that's the case with this design...
Francesca Lanzavecchia has designed something called the LightMate. According to her website, "LightMates are soft anthropomorphic pillows and warming lamps. Their different sizes answer to everyone's need of heat; a mate to hug or a huge companion you can lay on."

Jabra - and "headsetiquette"

Here at Popgadget we get hundreds of press releases each week. But recently I got one that I not only read all the way through, I laughed my head off. It's for the new BT530 Jabraheadse,t but the "headsetetiquette" is for all of us (kudos to Mike Rush at 360 PR):
Sure Bluetooth headsets increase efficiency, but how do you know you or your loved one won't be an abuser? By following a few simple rules, you can be hands-free and stylish without being "that guy" :

1) Never incorporate your Bluetooth headset into your hairdo
2) Keep the hand waving and shouting to a minimum in public to avoid looking crazy
3) Never whisper sweet nothings into a loved one’s ear while someone is talking into your own
4) You or your dentist can sport a headset, but never psychiatrists
5) Ditch it at wedding ceremonies, but feel free to tune out during divorce proceedings
The new titanium, lightweight Jabra headset features their proprietary "Noise Blackout technology" which uses dual-microphones, DSP technology and Audio Shock Protection to cancel out background noise and preserve voice quality in the process.
On a busy street I could hear my girlfriend clearly, and when she yelled "@#$&*" at someone who cut her off, it didn't blow my eardrum off because of the Audio Shock Protection. Obviously, that feature is going to come in handy for me.
While it's very comfortable in the ear -and comes with "eargels" to customize the size and wear without the earhook - the dedicated on/off controls on the side of the earpiece are so small I had to take it off to activate. Once in action, however, the tap controls (take a call / end a call / reject a call) on the front are intuitive.
Easy to pair with your device (yes, it works with the iPhone 3G); up to 5 1/2 hours talk time; 250 hours standby time. $99.
And don't get caught looking like Princess Leia. Enough said.
