First, everyone had a web site. Now, everyone has an app. Even your diamond has an app, that is, if it's the Forevermark, the diamond brand from the De Beers Group of Companies.("Forevermark: the Promise" is available for download in the Lifestyle section of the Apple App Store.)
We were curious about the app - would you "build" your own diamond? - but it turns out it's the journey of the diamond from mine where it is unearthed, all the way through cutting, polishing, and jewelry design.
For example, we learn that these diamonds are "responsibly sourced;" that each one bears the 3D Forevermark inscription; and that we want one.
They actually chose only less than one per cent of diamonds to be "Forevermark", each with the inscription of the brand icon and a unique identification number. The app can also be used to learn more about different colours, sizes, cuts and quality standards of diamonds, commonly assessed by the ‘4 C’s’ criteria. Interactive elements allow users to see the different sizes on a 1:1 scale gaining a realistic idea of the type of diamond that will suit them.
We picked the biggest sparkler we could find of course.
Michelle Obama shops at Target and our President likes video games. While out browsing for gifts, Mr. Obama picked up a copy of Sims 3 Pets this week. (We're not sure, but it's probably for one of his children.) In what other country can you shop shoulder to shoulder with the leader of the free world? (Ok, so there were tons of secret service people around, unless the staff at Best Buy has taken to wearing suits and earpieces.)
Our President should give the game a whirl though. With Sims Pets 3 you can create your own perfect—or imperfect—pets for your Sims, from fierce guard dogs to destructive kittens to loving horses. Not only can you can control how your Sims’ pets look, but their personality traits as well. (Go whole hog and get the Limited Edition to treat your Sims and their pets to an exclusive venue filled with unique objects.)
The last Sims game we raved about was Sims Medieval
but now we're hooked on Sims Pets.
Maybe the Prez will invite us over for a friendly game?

Do you ever get the feeling that, like in the movie iRobot, our gadgets are increasingly taking over the roles human beings play in our day to day activities? We felt this strongly today when we read about the AMMI (Automated Mobile Marketing Intelligence) system which basically does your grocery shopping for you.
Virtual fitting room fits.me aims to show online shoppers exactly how their clothing will look on a mannequin of the same dimensions. The system has been available to male shoppers for some time, but it's only recently been launched for women because according to the developers, the female form is more detailed.
A scanner is being used in UK stores which quickly and efficiently creates a 3D image of a shopper's body.
The scanner uses up to 16 cameras to take around 29 different measurements, which are then used to pick out the elusive "perfect pair" of jeans.
The machine itself would obviously have to be pretty big to accommodate a person, but at 3 metres by 1.5 metres I can imagine it takes up a lot of the store! However, it's a very good idea and could certainly work to minimise the amount of time it takes to shop, as well as the stress of not finding anything to fit quite right.
According to Ubergizmo, all kinds of devices, including cell phones, MP3 players, tablets and cameras can all be sent in to be traded, you just need to select their condition and answer a few questions.
This is a great initiative and I'm sure it'll be very beneficial to all parties, enhancing Amazon's reputation amongst its customers, allowing people to make use of old gadgets and giving people who are a little strapped for cash the chance to own good quality, used electronics.
