Misery deserves a pink Palm Centro!

pinkvdaycentro.jpg
Did you get to your office this morning only to find all your co-workers cradling roses and chocolates and boxes from Tiffany while all you held near your heart was rage and loneliness? Did you spend the last week making a 7-hour audio/video retrospective of your relationship only to find out today that you are no longer your valentine's valentine?

On this day which celebrates romantic love, we want to honor the real people, the ones filled with resentment and gut-wrenching jealousy- our people. Just leave a comment with a tale of Valentine's Day woe, and we will pick the best (the most painful) and send you a beautiful new Palm pink Centro, worth $400.

The Palm Centro is a perfect tool for those in search of love (or a better love). It's filled with communication features: IM, threaded SMS messaging, 3G browsing speeds, and a 1.3 MP camera with video recording.

You have to be on our email list, so please subscribe before entering the contest. Good luck and happy Valentine's Day!

Blackberry Curve Launch Party and Popgadget contest

Popgadget was invited to the swanky U.S. launch party for the new BlackBerry Curve from AT&T Thursday night in Beverly Hills. Ray told us about the Curve earlier, but this time I got to play with one for the duration of the party (and got one autographed for some lucky Popgadget reader, but more on that later).

The BlackBerry Curve has a full QWERTY keyboard, enhanced multimedia features, and a 2-megapixel camera with a 5x zoom lens, and comes in a sleek liquid silver package. Besides the faster web browsing and improved phone function, my favorite new addition is spell check for e-mail. It's about time.

By comparison, my 8700 looked awkward and heavy when side-by-side with the Curve, which weighs approximately 3.9 oz.

I can personally attest that it takes a pretty good photo too. I made myself completely obnoxious by taking pictures of the stars, for research purposes only of course - Eva Longoria, Fred Willard , Apolo Ohno, Adrian Grenier (Entourage), Milo Ventimiglia (Heroes), Kevin Connolly (Entourage), Donald Sutherland, Ian Ziering, Jessica Alba - but redeemed myself later by showing some of the stars how to use their new toy. (Everyone was gifted one in a glossy black bag.)

Some celebs needed no help figuring out their new Curve -- such as Ian Ziering who already has TWO BlackBerrys.

Last-minute Mom's day Nano gift set and giveaway

nanochocolate.jpg
It's too late even for an overnight delivery to reach your mom by Mother's Day on Sunday, but should you give up? Definitely not. And why do the usual flowers and flowery card? I think most mothers would appreciate a tech toy. Even my mother, who hates computers and has to have emails printed out for her to read recently asked me with interest if I had managed to score a Nintendo Wii (no, no, no, but I will). Digital cameras, a Tivo, a plasma tv - all good choices.

One easy way to get a complete gift (gadget+card+candy, pre-gift-wrapped) is the iPod Nano chocolate gift set, which includes a 4GB super-sleek Nano in silver or pink, in a cute gift box filled with pink and silver wrapped chocolate meltaways. I use the video iPod myself, so every time I see a Nano, I'm blown away each time by how tiny, thin, and almost weightless it is. It weighs just over an ounce, but it can hold 1000 songs or 25,000 photos. If you were a good child, you could even fill the Nano with your mom's favorite CDs and some family photos. No video on the Nano, but the screen is so small, that's a good thing, unless you want your mother to go blind. Also tucked in the box is a 10% off coupon from Best Buy - so you can encourage further gadget frenzy.

The Nano gift set is exclusively at Best Buy, and is available in-store only, for $205. We're giving one silver Nano set away on Mother's Day, courtesy of Best Buy, and you can either make it an extra-special belated gift for your mom or be greedy and keep it for yourself (if your conscience will let you- this is, after all, intended for the one who gave you life, but the Nano is the most beautiful iPod yet). To enter, you have to be a subscriber to our Popgadget email list. So if you're not already, subscribe to the list, and then send an email to giveaway@popgadget.net with the subject line, "Mother's Day Nano Giveaway" and give us all your details (name, mailing address) and tell us why your mom needs a Nano. Is she still listening to 8-track? Carrying around crates of vinyl plus a Crosby turntable when she goes on vacation? Let us know and the best story gets the gift set.

Winner of Belkin home office package

Until we started receiving entries for this contest sponsored by Belkin, I seriously thought I could have been the winner if I had qualified to enter. I was proven wrong by several impressive illustrations of what can happen when your office doubles as a playroom or kitchen or laboratory.

It was a close call indeed, but we do have a winner: Kelli Cree from Sunnyvale, California, who shares her office with a 1-year old and a 3-year old. I think this little fact and the photo below say it all.

Congratulations, Kelli!

Enter to win a Belkin home office package

belkin%20lapdesk.jpg

I doubt that your office is as messy as mine is -- I don't even know where my desk is anymore and there's a bird's nest of cables on the floor that aren't attached to anything, but remain there in the hopes of some day finding their matching devices.

While I ponder how my promising little work space turned into my office of shame, Belkin is giving away a package of home office products (total value of $180) to help one Popgadget reader get organized. All you have to do is:

1. If you're not already a subscriber to our free newsletter, click here and sign up;
2. Send an email to hoyun@popgadget.net with your name, address, and a digital photo of your office by midnight (Eastern Standard Time) of November 28th.

You must be at least 18 years of age and a resident of the United States (apologies to our readers outside the U.S.). The winner will be selected by Popgadget editors based on how well your photo illustrates your need for help. By entering this contest, you agree to having your photo, name and city of residence published on Popgadget in the event you are the selected winner.

Here's what's in this prize package:

The CushTop laptop cushion pictured above keeps your lap cool and comfortable while you're on your laptop in bed, on the couch, or on the floor (especially helpful if you've lost your desk).

Let's celebrate women in tech

There aren't many things that annoy me about writing about technology for a living. Having permission to ring the founder of Postsecret and ask him about his vision for the site? Not horrendous. Being offered new gadgets to trial...
