The Tagg Pet Tracker means you'll never lose a pet ever again

tagg-pettracker.jpg

The Tagg Pet Tracker is a pretty extreme but very effective way of keeping a track of exactly where your pet is at ALL times. Simply attach the device to your pet's collar and then track where they go using GPS. You can even set up a safe zone and if they ever step out of it you're notified straight away by SMS.

The Tagg comes with quite a hefty price tag, but it means your pet will never get lost again. EVER!

Available from Pet Tracker for $199.95 which also covers data costs.

Dog tags get QR codes

QR-tag.jpg

QR codes are being used everywhere at the moment, on advertisements, products, tattoos, gravestones.. yes, you read right GRAVESTONES.

But as crazy as some uses so far have been, we LOVE this idea from innovative pet company Platinum Pets, which adds a QR code to your little critter's ID tag.

By adding a QR code you can make sure anyone who finds your pet will have access to all kinds of important information, including contact details, vetinary and insurance information and even if you'll offer them a reward!

Of course not everyone is going to know what to do with a QR code, but the more popular they get, the more useful these little pet ID tags will become. They're also only $10 on Amazon at the moment, so they're a must for dog (or cat) lovers!

Jellyfish Art create tank for your desk

jellyfish-tank.jpg

I've seen a fair few desktop tanks containing small, subtle, Finding Nemo-style fish, but rarely do other strange creatures from the deep seem appropriate in a working environment.

Can you imagine a crab in an accountancy firm? An eel in a bank? It all seems a little creepy doesn't it...

Well, the experts at Jellyfish Art have recently created a large tank designed especially for, you guessed it, jellyfish. I personally find it a strange choice, jellyfish can sting and their lack of organs never fails to freak me out. However, many others apparently find the slow way jellyfish ooze around their tanks really relaxing, making them a welcome addition to a stressful office.

You'll notice the tank also shines bright neon lights on the little guys too, turning them into little living, breathing (I assume they breathe) works of art.

So, will you be replacing that photo of your family on your desk with a Portugese Man of War?

The desktop tank and starter kit is available from Jellyfish Art for $249, but if you want something that looks a little more Seaworld, then try the Monaco for $2,900.

The Turtle USB hub can be your geeky pet

turtle-usb-hub.jpg

Though it stumps me as to why we like to surround ourselves with computer peripherals that resemble animals, I would like to make a little argument in favor of the Turtle USB hub simply because of the fact that it looks rather sincere (and lovable) as it lies on the desk, faithfully connected to the PC. And I am perhaps also subconsciously inspired by the fact that all turtles represent the idea of endurance, living out hundreds of years as symbols of calm and poise.

Well, to cut out the poetry, the Turtle USB hub is a cleverly designed 4-port USB hub with the USB ports hidden within the limbs of the e-reptile. The shell is functional as well, and can be lifted up to store away the tiny items on your desk such as paper clips, post-it notes, and so on. A handy contraption that also looks good on your desk. Head on to USBFever.com to get your turtle at $13.99.

DogToids -- Just What You Think They Are

DogToids.jpg
As with most dog owners, we love our small "herd" ( three beautiful rescue doxies) but their breath is another matter. My husband uses that old expression, "It could stop the windmill on an old Dutch painting," or something like that.

So along comes DogToids of course, doggie breath mints. Made with parsley to freshen breath. these "yummy" dog bones are made from a combination of beef liver and fish flavors come in a handy tin. My dogs pronounced them" delicious!" Did it improve their breath? Briefly.

The site also mentions that they come in "Fun bone shapes" but my pups didn't slow down long enough to admire them.

From Bamboo Pets, one of our favorite pet sites, and avialable at most pet stores.

"Pig in a Blanket" - Smart Dog Toy

new-pig-blanket.jpg

As I write this, my dog Henry, a daschund, is happily chewing his "Pig in a Blanket," a rubber treat dispenser. I stuffed one of his favorite biscuits into the bottom of the pig and Henry is going "hog-wild." (Sorry.)

What's more, the plastic piggie is "wrapped" in bacon and gives off the scent of one of dog's favorite foods, so Henry will be busy for a long time to come. $9.99 from Fat Cat and Bamboo Pets, who have make some of the most creative and playful dog (and cat) toys.

Wuff! - Bowlingual dog translator device

Izzy.jpg

Ever wonder why your dog barks for no apparent reason, thinks the UPS guy is an ax murderer, and howls when you leave?

Thanks to a Japanese toy maker, you can now now use his "Bowlingual" gadget to translate dog barks into human language. Frankly, I don't need this device; I know what my dogs are saying most of the time. (Note: that's Izzy pictured above, a beautiful bulldog we took care of for a few days when we were on the Cape. We own two rascally doxies.)

"Feed ME!"
"PLEASE take me for a walk!"
"Squirrels are attacking the house!"

Bowlingual supposedly works through a 3-inch long wireless microphone attached to a dog collar; the microphone transmits sounds to a palm-sized console that is linked to a database. The console then classifies each woof, yip or whine into six emotional categories - happiness, sadness, frustration, anger, assertion and desire - and displays common phrases, such as "You're ticking me off," that fit the dog's emotional state.

Tokyo-based Takara Co. Ltd. says that about 300,000 of the dog translator devices have been sold since its launch in Japan last year, and with the United States being home to about 67 million dogs - more than six times the number in Japan - you can see why they think we're panting in expectation. For $120 you can buy it this summer .

I can hear my dogs now:

"You could have bought a lot of dog kibble with that!"

Fat Cat empty water bottle toys for dogs

fat-cat-toys.jpg

Some dogs love nothing better than to crunch on an empty water bottle -- must be that lovely sound -- so Fat Cat designed WaterBottle Crunchers toys. Consider it a great way to recycle and make Fido happy at the same time. Made of durable canvas, it's made to stand up to chewy pups.

Even though my doxies haven't tested it yet, Casey, the publicist, has a pit bull, Parker, who's been tearing away at it for over a week, so that's good enough for me.

parker-toy.jpg

The set (an amusing catepillar and snake) will put you back $21.95 at Bamboo/ Fat Cat. The toys can be filled with empty water bottles up to 20 oz. in size.

Kit-In Box desktop pet bed

kit-in-box.jpg

Our cat knows better than to step on or try to sleep on our computer keyboards, but boy does she love to position herself riiight next to them so that some of her fur and extra chub "accidentally" cover a few keys. Coupled with her strange habit of rubbing her face against the sides and corners of monitors and notebook screens, she certainly does her part in encouraging us to procrastinate and "finish up tomorrow."

She's too adorable and squishy to ignore or scold, of course, so it's obviously out of everyone's control. The only solution? The Kit-In Box wooden pet bed. Suitable for pets up to 20 pounds, the solid pine bed clamps onto the straight edge of a desk and lets Miss Kitty do several of her favorite things at once: perch, sleep, curl up, nest, and be with you.

Available for $50 with your choice of cherry, birch, or mahogany stains.

Itch Cat Scratch Pad

itch-cat-scratch-pad.jpg

Everytime you look at the tattered corners of your sofa, your shredded curtains or claw marks on the lovely kitchen cabinets, don’t you wish that your kitty didn’t have claws? Why not make your feline happy by providing a stylish alternative for her scratching instinct?

The people who designed the Itch Cat Scratch Pad had just that in mind. And while they were at it, they made it completely environment friendly too. Made from 100% renewable bamboo, the pads can be hung up (or placed horizontally) at strategic locations in your home to entice your kitty. The pads have removable carpet inserts that can be replaced from time to time. Sounds purrfect? Get yours from SquareCatHabitat for $50 a piece.
