I like a beautifully-scented home as much as the next girl, but I've never been able to muster much enthusiasm for candles, not even a Diptyque. The great thing is that there are ways of scenting your home more decoratively anyway. L'Occitane's Pomander is a metal globe that fans out in four elegant segments, each to contain a solid perfume cube. L'Occitane sells perfume cubes in scents such as Spicy Orange and Winter Forest.

For something more portable, there's L'Occitane's Mini Pomander, which you can scent with fragrance or essential oils, or your favourite perfume. The felt disk inside can be replaced for a different scent.

I prefer incense sticks to cones, but I could be persuaded with L'Occitane's beautiful burner.

With money to spare, one could always splurge on Maître Parfumeur et Gantier's hand-carved terracotta balls and boxes, filled with solid amber, and refillable.
