The Digital Thermometer Pan lets you be a gourmet geek

Help is on the way for the not-so-perfect cooks amongst us, and also for those around us who are frequently subjected to burnt or undercooked food – by way of the Digital Thermometer Pan.
The pan has a built-in thermometer that measures the temperature at the center of the pan, and displays the result (in degrees Fahrenheit and Celcius) on the readout encased rather sweetly at the tip of the handle. You won't cause any harm to the display while cleaning the pan, as the readout is removable, so you can detach it for cleaning.
So, if you're acquainted with (or are) someone who’s struggling with the art of cooking, you now know one way to pitch in. The Digital Thermometer Pan is priced at $50.

Babushka light from Mathmos

The classic Russian stacking dolls have been around for ages, and kids never tire of them, generation after generation. If you're nostalgic for these dolls, the new Mathmos Babushka Light might strike your fancy. It's Babushka with a modern twist, Russian dolls meet lava lamp. The light, which sells for $75, is made form mouth blown glass and mirror coated plastic, and the LEDs change from red to blue. See it in action here.
Just what is it about that shape that calls to me?

Cover your monitor the Martha Stewart way

I've mentioned before that my love of clever crafts far exceeds my ability to execute them, but I am still always entranced by the inventive and the pretty.
As someone who sometimes needs a lot of encouragment to log off ("but I wanted to check my email one last time" may well end up as my epitaph) these cute and (if you're not me) easy to make monitor cover (or as Martha Stewart calls them: TV Cozies) caught my eye. When work is done for the day, I'll slip one of these onto my monitor and go... slump in front of the TV, probably. Baby steps.

Suck UK's Slide Lamp is an elegant way to show off your old pictures

You guys are going to think I'm obsessed with slides (despite never having owned any) but I couldn't resist sharing this fabulous new lighting/design solution from the always-inventive Suck UK.
A Slide Lamp is a great way to display your photographic efforts as well as provide some nice mood lighting, and it comes in three sizes, with prices ranging from around $150-200, according to Geek Sugar.
I think these are beautiful, artistic and creative, and I love the idea of having a large one placed horizontally on my wall (if I had any slides to put in it, of course). I just wish there was an equally creative solution to removing or disguising the power cords...

Good Nite Lite - Better than a night light

This cute little night light - with a shining sun for day and sleepy moon for night - is actually a clever behavioral modification device designed to help little munchkins learn to sleep by using visual cues. With all the recent studies about our Circadian rhythms using external cues such as daylight to control our bodies' sleep patterns, I'm surprised it took someone so long to invent this for small children.
Studies have shown that a well-rested child is happier, less cranky and learns better than those kiddies who are sleep deprived. Designed for children ages 3-5, it's plug and play and uses a default 7am to 7pm period for sleep (which is easily modified), and automatically shuts off during the day.
Available in September for $34.99 at Good Nite Lite.

Moody Aquarium Sink

If your fish are bored (and how would you know?) give them this new playground -- the aquarium washbasin. Wash your face and watch the goldfish frolick. Completely watertight, with a sand bed for fish, it provides the necessary lighting, circulation, oxygenation and filtration to keep your fish happy.
Two openings, one on each side of the basin, under the soap dishes, allow access for cleaning purposes or changing the arrangement. The washbasin is mounted on a chrome finish brass stand provided with a front towel rail.
It'll put you back a little more than your standard acquarium; $4,700 at Home Click.
I don't know, it sounds a little fishy to me (sorry).

New site How to Clean Stuff sounds boring but isn't

When I saw there was a website called How To Clean Stuff, my first thought was wow, how boring. And I am certainly not going to write about it as news on a women's tech site: it's not 1953.
But then I took a look, and it's actually a pretty great idea. Goodness knows, I've spent enough time looking for recommendations for the best ways to get grit out of keyboards and grime off of LCD screens; I'm sure I can't be the only one.
Visit the site for the low-down on how to keep everything from an aquarium to a Wii Fit balance board sparkling fresh. And for every cleaning tip submitted to the site, its owners will donate 25 cents to the Clean Water Fund.

Toothpick Man dispenses toothpicks one at a time

My husband litters the house with used toothpicks, and while this clever gadget won't help with that, I love that its function is disguised. The little “weight lifter” in Menu's toothpick dispenser holds up a clean toothpick in his outstretched arms every time you lift and drop the black cover.
Maybe if I put a garbage pail right beside it....

Kodak unveils the world’s first OLED digital photo frame

Ultra-chic would be an underestimation for the new digital picture frame that has just been announced by Kodak at the ongoing photographic and imaging trade fair, Photokina 2008.
The Kodak frame is the first digital picture frame of its kind to use the OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) technology to produce stunningly exceptional picture quality. This extremely slim frame has a 7.6-inch digital panel with a resolution of 800x400 and an extensive 180-degrees viewing angle. Yep, it is wireless too and can store up to 10,000 images on its 2GB internal memory. And make that images with extraordinary crispness, color and depth which you will be eager to show off on your centerpiece.
Expect to indulge yourself sometime during Christmas 2008 at a rather immoderate $999.
