An artist named Jim Campbell crafts custom electronics using video filtered to LEDs to display human motion in real-time. I saw his Ambiguous Icons Motion and Rest Series #5 (depicting a church on Fifth Ave.) at the Siggraph Art Gallery this year and I was completely transfixed. He dumps NTSC video through a low-pass filter to subsample the footage which creates a trance-inducing yet completely lively viewing experience. How much? Priceless. I'd never complain about low-res video again if Santa were to mount one of Campbell's 29 x 22" canvases next to the chimney. (Sheigh)
