Fantasy Gift - Needless Markup Christmas Book

We would be remiss if we didn't bring our readers some extravagant Christmas indulgence from the fanciful Neiman Marcus Christmas Book.
It was a tough decison between the $35,000 dragon topiary by artist Matthew Larkin -- a steal really considering the gold-leafed horns, claws, teeth, and fins -- and the NM Gem Triton 1000 Submarine which dives to 1,000 feet and comes with a two day instruction package. (Thank goodness, Scout would just smash it up otherwise!) Oh, it's $1,440,000.
In the end, we settled on the Vertu Signature Diamond Phone which works in more than 150 countries. But forget about that - look at those 7.2 carat white and pink diamonds, Muffy! Of course that's 18-kt. rose gold. 24-hour global concierge service? But of course. With only 100 available, you don't risk bumping into someone with the same phone.
A mere $73,000. Take it out of the piggy bank, daaalink...

Free iPhones!!!

Okay, but not for you -- only if you work at Apple. Rumor has it (meaning I can't substantiate it) that all Apple employees will get a free iPhone tomorrow afternoon. After the Town Hall meeting at Apple this week, jubilant Applers were (quietly) boasting about their new 8GB iPhone.
But WE will be giving away an iPhone very soon in our email newsletter (so sign up here or on the form on the right of our website) to a deserving Popgadget reader. How do you get to be so deserving? Just by reading us religiously. It may be your best shot to get your paws on one of these for free, and not just read about it ad nauseum.
Via Crave.

The Popgadget autographed BlackBerry Curve goes to . . .

Erin Bales of Palatine, Illinois. Because our BlackBerry Curve was signed by a random group of three celebrities Evan talked to at the Curve launch party, for this Popgadget contest, we asked you to give us your idea of the most randomly oddball grouping of three celebs you'd like to overhear in a 3-way call. Here is Erin's entry:
I would like to hear a conversation between Britney Spears, Maya Angelou, and Don Rickles. What would they talk about? Would Maya tell Britney she needs to embrace her phenomenal woman? Could Don Rickles make Maya laugh, or would she just be offended by his ribald sense of humor? Maybe they would be planning to take their show on the road. Britney would be the music, Don would be the humor, and Maya could be the inspiration. I wonder how Don and Maya would feel about touring with a giant albino boa constrictor...
Our BlackBerry Curve (now Erin's) was signed by Michael Chiklis (The Shield, Fantastic Four), DJ Adam 12, and Adrian Grenier from Entourage.
Congratulations, Erin, and enjoy your Curve.

YouTube to stream videos directly to iPhone

One more rumour about the iPhone can be laid to rest. Apple has finally confirmed that the iPhone will support wireless streaming of video content from YouTube. Which happens to be a perfectly symbiotic relationship - supporting YouTube will mean a more panoramic audience for the iPhone, while being on the iPhone will bring YouTube into the mobile market.
Meanwhile, YouTube has been sprucing itself up for the alliance with gusto. iPhone lovers(?) can now look forward to a bouquet of more than 10,000 high quality videos from YouTube for the June 29th launch. Plus, the videos are being encoded in the trim H.264 format to ensure longer battery life of the iPhone.
Apple also jointly announced that YouTube will be available on Apple TV as well. Methinks this gorgeous alliance might prove to be just what the doctor ordered.

Cheaper version of iPhone?

Is Apple already working on cheaper variants of iPhone? Well, of course they are, silly. Just like Apple did after introducing the regular iPod, when they brought out the more affordable iPod shuffle and iPod nano, they'll announce a cheaper iPhone with fewer features.
American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu said today, "Apple needs to round out its iPhone product line at lower price points (similar to iPod) if it expects to replicate the success of its iPod with sales of 100 million units.”
Goodie. I'm waiting. I mean, I WAS waiting for the second generation anyway, when all the bugs are worked out. Really.
But stayed tuned to POPGADGET as we're giving away a brand new iPhone in the coming weeks!

More iPhone, More Hype

Apple Inc. said Monday that its much-anticipated iPhone device will feature an optical-quality glass surface and deliver significantly longer battery life than was originally estimated. (You were hoping for an upgrade to 3G? No such luck.)
So that figures out to 8 hours of talk time, 6 hours of Internet use, 7 hours of video playback or 24 hours of audio playback. In addition, the multi-functional device will feature up to 250 hours -- more than 10 days -- of standby time.
Apple also upgraded from plastic to optical-quality glass to achieve a "superior level of scratch resistance and optical clarity."
And in case you've been living in a cave, the iPhone will be available on June 29, 2007 in a 4GB model for $499 and an 8GB model for $599, and will work with either a PC or Mac.
