Bing Your Britain blogger competition

Popgadget American Express Giveaway: 75,000 Point Picks

Popgadget is giving away a $100 Gift Card from American Express, and all you have to do is take a look at the Membership Rewards catalog and share what you would do with your points to be entered to win. I have to say, since I've had a baby, shopping has gotten harder, because within the same budget, you could say I'm shopping for two. I'm not as quick to buy frivolous things for myself, which is definitely not how I used to be. I definitely am thinking more about how anything I buy can benefit the whole family. So let's see how I do with with the 75,000 points (and under) category.

I have been a PC gamer for years and years, but somehow I've never owned a gaming console. I think I felt some guilt about it, because a console is dedicated to gaming, not done in guilty breaks between spreadsheets. No more of that, I need the stress relief and I'm all for my son growing up to love games, electronic and otherwise. This Xbox 360 Kinect includes the console, the Kinect body controller, and the Kinect Sports game. You can work up a genuine sweat boxing and running.

Popgadget American Express Giveaway: 50,000 Point Picks

I'm sharing my own top five in the 50,000 points category. Gadgetry, as always, seems to take up most of my picks, but baby gear is now a close second.

Somehow, with his natural monkeyness (and a lot of assistance from his auntie), my baby son learned how to climb up steps months before he learned to walk. This Step2 Treehouse looks perfect to help him perfect his method, while also doing his other favorite activity: sliding down while screaming like a madman.

Popgadget Giveaway from American Express! My Life on Points

Popgadget is once again teaming up with American Express to give our readers a chance to win a $100 American Express Gift Card. Over the next couple of weeks, I'll be exploring all the vast options available through the Membership Rewards Program and choosing my top 5 picks in three points categories: 25,000 points, 50,000 points, and 75,000 points.

As a new mother and a gadget fanatic, I expect that most of my favorite finds will be focused in baby gear and electronics. Right now I'm looking for the perfect high chair as well as anything that will educate and entertain (preferably at the same time) my one-year old son. I'm also going through a bit of a gadget accessories obsession at the moment, so I'm looking for the perfect cases for my iPad 2 and MacBook Air. I also need to find a few gifts so I'm hoping to find something besides just gift cards (although they are the perfect last-minute gift for anyone).

As I post my own favorite finds, I'd love to know what your top five favorite finds in each price point category are as well. At the end of the program (after I've posted my top five picks in each point category), we'll pick a winner for the $100 Amex gift card.

Holiday Gift List Challenge- 4 Days Left- Win a $100 Gift Card!

A couple of weeks ago, I took the American Express Gifting Quiz on Facebook and found out I was a "Creative Gifter". Usually that's true- I like to take time to find the perfect gift, or combination of gifts (the big gift+2 medium gifts+ 5 stocking stuffers+candy) but this year with a baby, I spent my scant time on research and I haven't had time for the actual gift-buying. Uh oh. I just took the quiz again, in my present frame of mind, and it's confirmed: "LAST MINUTE GIFTER".

American Express challenged me to find the perfect gifts for people on my list and I think I've found some great ones.

My niece is a film student, and a total videophile, so she's been wanting a Blu-ray Disc Player for a while. I wanted to get her a really good one, and I think the Samsung 3D Blu-Ray Disc Player qualifies. It has Ultra Fast Play so movies start playing right away, no more spinning and waiting, and of course, full 1080p resolution. It even supports 3D (naturally) if you're lucky enough to have a 3D television. The best thing about this player is that through wifi- it helps your television become a totally connected media center. You can use Samsung-supported apps like Netflix and Hulu Plus for streaming content, as well as familiar apps like YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook. The total? 66,600 points. Done.

Last Day to Enter Tech Makeover Giveaway is Friday, December 17th!

Holiday Giveaway- Total Tech Makeover!

Chances are, you or someone you know suffers from severe Hourglass Syndrome. Can you imagine how much more you could get done if you didn't have to wait so long for your computer to catch up with you? Not so long ago, when I worked as an IT consultant during grad school, I used to walk into offices where people would get to work, turn on their computers, then go get breakfast while their computers booted up because they so hated watching that hourglass spin. The average person spends three full days a year waiting for their computers to catch up. Based on what I've seen, it's probably not uncommon for that to be three weeks a year.

Holiday Gift List Challenge- Win a $100 Gift Card from American Express!

What kind of gifter are you? I just took this American Express quiz which says I'm a "creative" gifter. I think this is accurate if that means I think about gifts for ages, dog-ear catalogs and magazines, ask questions all year, and then hurriedly try to get the gifts starting on about, oh December 21st, when I have to pay as much for express shipping as I do for the gifts. American Express has developed a "shopping personality program" to help people like me (and like most people, I think) who have shopping personality disorder. American Express would like to help people shop smarter, and better manage their gift budgets. American Express has challenged me to be the best "creative gifter" I can be, and so with 150,000 American Express Gold membership points. I am going to try and get the perfect gifts for my sister, husband, niece, nephew, and son. My challenge, obviously, will be learning to be creative while getting really nice gifts for a lot of people. This is my problem- I tend to overspend for one or two people and end up short-changing others because I haven't thought about my budget. This year will be different.

Over the next few days, I'll be spending time on the Membership Rewards site, as well as on ShopAmex.com to look for my perfect gifts. ShopAmex lets you combine membership points with your American Express card for more shopping choices. I'll be writing more posts about my shopping progress, and updating you on the gifts I find.
