Philips creates indoor Urban Beehive concept

If you're fascinated by the thought of bee-keeping but live in the city, then Philips may have an innovative new solution for you, the Urban Beehive concept.
It may look like some kind of pod from Alien, but in actual fact the slick and futuristic device is a beehive, specially designed for urban living, with honeycomb layers and a smoke system to calm the bees down before you open the casing.
You can't keep bees in every state unfortunately, but if you're a New Yorker, it's legal and you can even attend special classes to learn how to do it properly!

Hanging tent for rock climbers

We love this very clever hanging tent design, created specially with rock climbers in mind. It's obviously incredibly strong and safe, but we'd still feel a bit uncomfortable falling asleep in it in case something somewhere snapped... Still, it's a beautiful and simple design.

Silverback creates bikes with USB ports to charge your gadgets

An innovative German designer and bicycle maker called Silverback has created two new bikes which have built-in USB posts, meaning you can charge your devices up as you pedal.
The two bikes are part of the company's new city range called Starke and generate power as cyclists pedal through a dynamo hub mounted on the front wheel. This means the bikes can charge all kinds of products, like phones and MP3 players.
Visit the Silverback website for more info.

The Part concept merges tablet and phone

We love this design concept from trio Eunha Seo, Junse Kim and Yonggu Do, which merges a cell phone and a tablet into one in the form of The Part.
Why buy two devices when you could have both together anyway?!

Finnish hotel lets you stargaze from cosy igloos

At the Hotel Kakslauttanen in Finland there's an incredible igloo village, which allows guests to watch the Northern Lights from the comfort of one of 20 glass igloos. They're specially designed to repel frost and are made from thermal glass.
If you don't fancy snuggling up in an igloo, then why not visit the hotel's snow chapel, ice bar or smoke sauna. We can't think of a better winter holiday!

Kern Type: Make text more readable and easy on the eye

OK, so it's not really a game. But what Kern Type does is help you to see just how much better text looks when the spaces are even and well thought out. An activity designers called kerning.
Go check out the Kern Type website and play around with the words so they looks as lovely and readable as possible then see how your score compares to the work of an actual typographer. An idea little exercise for anyone who appreciates good web design.

Lights made from coffee cups and spoons

We love seeing rubbish being put to good use and not just thrown into a landfill. So we were excited to see lots of old coffee cups and spoons being made into giant light features that were created by Swiss designer Christian DuCharme and are currently being displayed at the Layafette Espresso Bar and Market in New York.
