Glasses that could help the visually impaired
Researchers at Oxford University have been working on a special pair of glasses which could work to massively improve the lives of those with poor vision.
According to the Oxford Science Blog, the glasses utilize the same technology found in smart phones and games consoles like facial recognition, cameras, depth sensors and position detectors. All of these different features are then worked into a fairly normal pair of glasses, enabling those with poor and deteriorating vision to see the things that matter the most in more detail than usual.
For instance, lights in the lenses feedback information about objects and people in view and send this to a computer which will be in the user's pocket. It will then display certain information to the viewer depending on what's in front of them.
According to one of the main researchers, the glasses will probably be quite pricey and will certainly need to be carefully tailored to each individual. However, if the concept becomes a reality it could really change the lives of those currently struggling with poor vision.
