Create perfect sunsets with Grand Marnier photo app

Ever since Instagram and Hipstamatic became so popular, it seems impossible for anyone to take a regular photo that looks like it's from 2011. We need our images to seem at least a few decades old, with plenty of distressing, a little blurring, a fancy border and possibly some vignetting thrown in for good measure.
After applying a filter to every one of my photos for the past few months, I've decided it's time to branch out a little and experiment with apps that aren't just about grungy effects and dream-like blurring.
With summer in full swing it's a great time to really play around with the lighting when you're experimenting with mobile photography, but it can be really hard to get the perfect scene and the perfect light. There are plenty of apps on the market that focus solely on applying and tweaking lighting effects, such as iDarkRoom or LensLight, but the final results can end up looking a little fake.
Well, unlikely photo app contender Grand Marnier (yes, the brand behind the popular orange liqueur) has created the Sunset Taker, an app specially designed to turn your photos into lovely sunset shots anytime and anywhere. It certainly sounds promising and from my quick snapshot above you can see it actually does deliver, transforming my dull picture of a spiky tree into something much more exotic!

The app allows you to change the saturation and sunset tint, giving you full control of the intensity with a handy little slider. You can also add lens flare and stretch it or move it around your image to make sure it looks as natural as possible. Granted you'd probably achieve a more precise effect with the likes of Photoshop on your desktop, but the results are some of the most effective and most importantly believable I've come across when it comes to applying light effects using just your mobile.
Available for iOS devices from the Apple store now. Oh and did we mention it's absolutely free?!
