Light bulbs to be connected to WiFi

In a step to make our homes and energy use as eco-friendly as possible, a company based in the Netherlands called NXP has created Greenchip technology to be used in WiFi connected light bulbs.

The technology and WiFi capability will allow you to turn off lights from any computer also hooked up to the same connection and they're not standard light bulbs either, but compact fluorescents and LED bulbs which require less energy.

Not only will these lights have an impact on our electricity consumption, but they'll open up a range of different options for lighting designers who can make changes to big displays quickly and easily from another device.

The bulbs themselves aren't available to buy yet, but with NXP pioneering the Greenchip technology, we're not going to have to wait too long.
