Hotel towels fitted with RFID chips
I know a few regular travelers who see no harm in taking free toiletries, towels and other random items from hotel rooms as they pass through from one place to another.
However, several hotels have now decided that enough is enough and towels and linens should be off bounds to cheeky travelers. The hotels in Honolulu, Miami and Manhattan have begun sewing specially designed RFID tags into towels, so if someone attempts to take one off the premises the chip will set off an alarm that alerts the staff on reception.
One hotel has already reported saving around $15,000, so expect to see this system rolled out across many more hotels, spas and resorts in the future.
