Daring Bakers Post Monthly Recipe Challenges
On the last leg of a recent (but all too short) trip to England, I was treated to a home cooked meal by my hosts in London. After a week of eating fish and chips, steak and kidney pie, mushy peas, and scones with clotted cream, a simple but delicious chicken roast and vegetables hit the spot. However, the notable part of the meal (for Popgadget readers) was the dessert. Mackenzie, my host, urban planner, and blogger of "The Travelling Cook," explained to me that this strudel recipe came from the Daring Bakers.
The Daring Bakers started with two friends, Lis of "La Mia Cucina" and Ivonne of "Creams Puffs in Venice", who would bake the same thing each month, and then blog about it. Eventually, other food bloggers started to participate. Now, each month, a new recipe, which is held secret to the public, is distributed to the group. Then, at the end of the month, everybody posts their experiences with the recipe on their respective blogs on the same day. The website has expanded into food recipes, with the Daring Chefs. According to their website, they have 2000 members, as of early 2009. And of course, there is a Flickr group.
