Stop and Smell the Tech: Asus Introduces Scent Infused Laptops

Asus-F6V.jpg

With computer manufacturers putting more and more emphasis on laptop design, the battle for beauty is getting a little ugly, forcing designers to push the limits of the imagination. We've seen notebooks made with faux crocodile skin, fabric, and pressed aluminum to name a few. Asus, the makers of the drool-worthy Lamborghini VX3, have come up with something pleasing to the eyes and the olfactory system.

The Asus special edition F6V Laptop or the fragrance laptop comes in four different colors (black, aqua blue, pink, and lime green) each with a different eye-catching design and scent. With names like Morning Dew, Musky Black, Aqua Ocean, and Flora Blossom (What, no Powder or Shower Fresh?) the F6 sounds more like a deodorant line than a laptop, but naming conventions aside, Asus worked to make sure the F6 is more than an expensive air freshener.

The 13.3 inch notebook is powered by Intel Core Duo Processors and runs Windows Vista Ultimate, Business, Home Premium and Home Basic. According to product specs, there is 4FFB of Ram andthe SATA hard drive starts with a minimum 120GB and maxes out at 320GB. It's equipped with an ATI Radeon HD4570 graphics processor that can support DirectX10 which combines for an incredible graphic display. It also has a built in microphone and a 1.3 megapixel web cam, good for video conferencing. And to keep your smell-good machine safe and secure, there's biometric fingerprint authentication.

So the designers at Asus have succeeded in creating something almost as fanciful as their name. No word on pricing yet, but it'll be interesting to see how this latest gimmick in the laptop style wars will fare in the current market. Will this fragrant gadget bloom or will it be just stinky roadkill on the way to real innovation.
