Checking out the audio/video player of your dreams? Try DAPreview.net

In a comment on a previous post about shopping for MP3 players, Jason wanted me to try DAPreview.net. We lovelovelove reader comments and believe in responding to them. So I did.

Lots o' stuff going on at DAPreview.net besides reviews, including news, forums, articles and miscellaneous blog posts. I did not, oddly, find a home-grown review of the Archos 605, the player I yearn for. But among the several posts were summaries of reviews, including the CNET semi-rapture that had introduced me to the 605. Also some pre-launch speculations and later commentaries, including one on how to hack the 605 - if you're into that sort of thing.

Not me, sister. In this cursory tryout, I would say the site is just a bit geeky for my taste - or my level of (non)expertise. But I'm the nongeek in my family. It seems like a decent place to check out some specific DAPs once you've assembled a short list. DAPreview.net would bring you a more focused hit list than, say, googling. Not clear that it would be a terribly good place to start your search, though, unless you knew what you were looking for.
