TeaCubes - for the perfect cuppa

If you're a tea snob, I mean ,connoisseur, as I am, you know it's all about the process - steep it too long and it's bitter; too short and it's colored water.
TeaCubes takes the guessing out of the equation by placing the tea bag on a timed retractable spool so it pulls the teabag out of your mug in exactly three minutes.
Designed by Jieun Yang & Hanah Suh, it's only in the concept stage at this point, but you can admire it at Yanko Design.

FC Mobile handheld for original NES gaming fun

Oh, man, my husband will never let me live this one down. Nearly an entire drawer in our spare-room dresser, you see, has been home to an original Nintendo console and a stack of 8-bit game cartridges he picked up several years ago for no apparent reason other than the fact that he saw it at a store. He's always been adamant about keeping the retro set, Duck Hunt gun and all, and now I finally know why.
He's been waiting for this crazy-looking FC Mobile portable game system to hit the market. Designed for those enormous NES cartridges that often required a little "blowing into" to work properly when I was a kid, the handheld is equipped with a 2.4-inch color display, runs on three AA batteries, and can even hook up to a TV for big-screen playback (you know, to make the most of those awesome graphics).
Since I shouldn't lie and say that something like this wouldn't complement the Sega Mega Drive handheld he has rather nicely, I may as well head over to eBay and pick one up for about $50 right now.

kickTrak - baby kick counting

If Tom Cruise had this gizmo when Katie was preggars with Suri, she never would have made it out of the house. Remember how he bought the fetal ultrasound machine for use at home and took photos almost every hour? (According to National Enquirer, and you know how they fact-check all their stories.)
KickTrak does just what you think it does. The non-invasive handheld device counts your baby's kicks to track his movement and assure you that he's doing well. Ultimately, its real goal is to prevent the risk of stillbirth. Starting at 24 weeks, the kickTrak records and stores the time it takes for your baby to complete 10 movements, including kicks, rolls, jabs, and turns-- once a day, at the same time, when your baby is usually most active.

HD in the palm of your hand - Sony Handycam HDR-TG1

I'm a huge, huge Flip camera fan, but if I had money to spend and a really serendipitous life where there was good stuff to record more often than not, I'd invest in Sony's Handycam camcorder, HDR-TG1. This hot little device will be available on May 30, 2008, in time for summer fun, the wedding season, vacations, and all your sun-filled adventures.
The HDR-TG1 is a small and slim titanium encased camcorder that delivers full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution video recording. In spite of this device being enormously sexy, expensive, and seemingly fragile, it's actually built for taking everywhere and for the fumble fingers in all of us. The titanium body is protected with Premium Hard Coating to provide resistance to even the smallest scratches.

Batman MP3 player with batsuit ear headset

I don't know if it's because I didn't grow up admiring him, but Batman doesn't impress me for some reason. The Batmobile, the Batcave, the Bat Signal, the bat-shaped gadgets . . . it's all a bit much. I mean, we get it already. Bruce Wayne really has a thing for bats. You know, it's one thing to take a theme and run with it, but it's quite another to beat everyone over the head with it whenever possible.
Bearing that in mind, you can be sure that when the 1GB Batman MP3 player from PopBox Collectibles is released this summer, I'll have found something bearing a different likeness to buy for $80.

Mini microwave: Snacks on demand

Does your staff kitchen cause you to have nightmares? You've actually already got your own mini-fridge in your cube/office, so that you can avoid the freakish festival that occurs in the community fridge. If so, you can now add a compact microwave to your collection.
The new iWaveCube Personal Microwave is compact enough to be hidden away in your office or pint-sized starter apartment. It's the perfect size (smaller than a cubic foot) to prepare your hot beverage of choice, reheat your leftovers (maybe!), or cook up a warm snack.

Think pollen is the only thing causing your symptoms? You could be allergic to your cell phone.
If it weren't enough that it's pollen season, here comes the news that some of us may also be allergic to our cell phones and other gadgets we come into contact with. Lately, I swear my ears itch when I've been talking on my cell phone for a long time, but it hasn't occurred to me until just now that it might be an allergy. I'm reminded of the time when my earlobes swelled to the size of great big cherries from wearing earrings made of an identified metal.
According to an article in I4U News, those of us sensitive to the metals used in manufacturing portable electronic devices, particularly nickel (used in cell phone batteries) which is one of the leading culprits, may suffer from rashes from contact with these gadgets.
Unfortunately, while it's easy to avoid skin allergies from contact with cheap jewelry (just don't wear it, stick with gold), it's not as easy to avoid allergies to our gadgets. Those for whom money is no object have the option to buy gold-encased cell phones - like these 24 carat iPhones - but the batteries are probably still made of nickel.

Foam! What is it good for? Making art and furniture, apparently
Back in 2000, Brazilian artist Carla Tennenbaum discovered that the packaging material EVA foam can not be recycled and was clogging up landfill sites. Disappointed, she decided to take action and recycle the foam herself. As only an artist could, she created a range of beautiful and unusual works of art and pieces of furniture, like the ottoman pictured below.

You can find out more and see the full range of Carla's works via her website, but you can see my favorite over the page. And if you're inspired, maybe you'll decide to make your own!

Conference on the go with Spracht Aura Mobile BT Bluetooth device

Impress the heck out of your friends in the car pool with the Aura Mobile BT, a Bluetooth enabled product that turns your mobile phone, PC or Mac (for VoIP calls), or cordless home phone into a conference phone. It easily picks up conversation in the backseat (so be careful) and has surprisingly good sound quality. The 3 watt amp and dual speakers ensure enough volume to fill a car or conference room. (With hands-free law in effect, I'm keeping mine in my car.)
There's no software to install and everything you'll need is included in the package, even the car charger. Echo and noise cancellation help keep the calls clear -- even better than on my cell phone. My only quibble is that it's clunky; even though it comes with a visor clip, it kept sliding off, so now I have it balanced in the cupholder.
Sells for $129 at Spracht, and is also available at Amazon..
