In my tiny cottage, every piece of furniture has to do double duty (the couch is also a bed, the dining table serves as a desk, the coffee table stores books underneath). What I lack, though, is a good step ladder for reaching the high shelves of my kitchen cabinets - because, until now, I hadn't seen one that could do something more than be an ugly step ladder. I like this one from Stonewall Kitchen (for $159) because when it's not being used as a ladder, it folds into a simple, and even somewhat attractive, extra chair. I'd prefer one that turned into a bar stool when it's not being a step ladder, so that my kitchen counter could then do double duty as extra table space, but I'd be happy with this clean, white chair.
