Wired Store in Soho is open

I finally got the chance to pop into the Wired Store in Soho, which seems to be an annual event now. If you are looking for futuristic prototypes, you will be a bit disappointed. This isn't NextFest, but rather, a showcase of products that you can get today. Although the Wii and Guitar Hero aren't exactly cutting edge, there are a couple of nice inclusions.
I saw my first "One Laptop Per Child," also once known as the "100 Dollar Laptop." Developed by the founder of the MIT Media Lab, the mini-computer runs a modified version of Linux and is slated to be distributed to the developing world. Learn more about the "Give One Get One" program that has been extended through the end of the year.

Also, on hand was the $1,564 Optimus Maximus Keyboard, by the Art. Lebedev Studio . Each key is its own display, which can used to show letters, images, symbols or icons.
The Wired Store is located at 60 Green St. in New York. You can drop by on Wednesday – Friday: 12PM – 8PM and Saturday & Sunday: 11AM – 7PM, before it closes for the year on December 30, 2007.
