Defender - the superhero of iPod and iPhone cases

otter-iphone.png otter-iphone-back.jpg

This new line of Defender cases from Otterbox could easily go to Iraq -- or just to the office. With 3 layers of protection in a rugged package, these iPod and iPhone cases protect from dust, dirt and drops in a thin yet protective design. (The iPhone case accommodates both 4 GB and 8 GB Apple iPhones.) Prices for the Defender series range from $29.95 for the iPod touch to $49.95 for the iPhone

Great for sports fanatics or husbands who drop their iPods, the site claims you can drop it without worrying. I'm going to take their word for it. Since all surfaces of the device are covered, including the touchscreen, it can stand a little precipitation as well. (The thin membrane covering the touchscreen takes just a little getting used to, I've found.)

But if you really want waterproof, go for the Armor series. This rugged line of interactive cases safeguards from rain, dust, dirt, drops and other mishaps so you can take your technology everywhere. These cases are water-proof up to depths of 3 meters; just remember to get the waterproof earphones (such as the H20s). Prices range from $39.95 for the iPod nano (3rd Gen) to $69.95 for the Armor iPhone case.
