Apple's sale: Worth the wait?
Apple's Black Friday special sale drew a crowd both online and in-person. For a single, glorious, penny-pinching day customers could save $51 or $101 off MacBooks and iMacs, $21 off the AirPort Extreme Base Station, $21 off the iPhone Bluetooth Headset, and $11-31 on all three iPods.
Out of curiosity, I made my way through the crowds to the 5th Ave. Manhattan store. I couldn't believe the line. I'm no Ansel Adams, but this line, at times, extended around the block. Passersby could look down through the glass at the bustling of the shoppers, the swiping of credit cards, the "oohs" and "ahhs" of the satisfied.
Seven years ago, this scene would have been unthinkable. The excitement over Apple and the products and the future was and is palpable!
FAO Schwarz, record-holder for longest lines and most popular post-Thanksgiving event, appeared to have lost out to the clamoring of the tech crowd.
My prediction, next year Apple might add "Apple Bouncers" to their growing family.
