Retro-style USB desk vacuum

I have no idea how useful all those USB desktop vacuums are, can't imagine they have much power to them, but I don't think I can resist this retro-style USB vacuum, which mimics the look of an old classic upright. While I don't see the dimensions listed, I imagine it's like most USB vacuums and is about the size of a standard stapler. It probably has just enough suction power to clean up lunch crumbs that you (well, I) would normally just brush off onto the floor. It might possibly also lessen my earth-destroying habit of using canned air on everything. I'm not sure this vacuum could actually get at the bits of grossness that get stuck in keyboards, but it would sure look cute trying.
The retro USB vacuum is $34, and available from Bim Bam Banana.

Light emitting wallpaper

I am not a big fan of wallpapers. Actually, I pretty much hate them, though I wouldn’t think twice about this light emitting wallpaper by the Dutch designer Jonas Samson.
When turned off, the wallpaper is just like any other regular wallpaper, but once turned on, light patterns start appearing on it, turning the wall into a work of art and another source of light for your apartment. This would be a particularly good investment if, like me, you happen to live further up north on the hemisphere and are doomed to long dark winters. I can already imagine the soothing and cozy atmosphere created by the light patterns.
Unfortunately, there is no information on where you can purchase Samson's light emitting wallpaper on the designer’s site, though I believe the product is still in its infancy at the moment and probably just being presented at various exhibitions.

Mini Droplet CD Player from Consonance

I do not know how a CD player with dimensions of 14x38x43cm and a weight of 20kg(!) can be termed “mini,” but let me just say that the droplet CDP3.1 CD player from Consonance is neither portable nor affordable. This latest offering from Consonance follows the legacy of its predecessors and will leave you poorer by $2,495 to $2,995. And the specs won’t sweep you off your feet either – it's a 24-bit, oversampling player with digital circuitry to eliminate jitter (just imagine the horror of jogging with this thing). The top-loading player also has gold-plated RCA outputs and a remote. Check out the site to locate authorized dealers.

Holiday Lighting Remote Kit

Tired of climbing behind your Christmas tree to turn it on? I always come out with a hair full of tinsel, which is a nice look, but more New Year's, don't you think?
This year we're using Smart Home's INSTEON Wireless Remote Starter kit which controls all your outside Christmas lights, that tasteful blow-up Santa on the lawn, and the holiday Douglas fir.
Smart Home tells us that the INSTEON Holiday Lighting Starter Kit can be set up "in less than five minutes" (it took me a little longer) to control any connected device remotely using a simple "Plug and Tap" setup process. For example, to control "linked" devices, you can tap one of the RemoteLinc's buttons on or off, or you can hold a button to brighten or dim. Each of the six ON/OFF buttons on the RemoteLinc can be set up to control every light or just one light in your home remotely. (It can be used over 150' from the Access Point .)
For only $89.99 you can simplify your holidays -- and leave the tinsel for the blow-out New Year's party. Some lucky POPGADGET email subscriber will win one of these, so make sure you're on Santa's favorites list.

Happy Robot Bag: Makes strangers smile

Ready to retire your bland black laptop bag? Looking for a great gift for the vegan-tech-lover in your life? Consider Shana Logic's Happy RobotBag . Made from sturdy double lined black vinyl (animal-friendly) with an adjustable canvas strap, flat bottomed for extra room and lined with durable black fabric, you'll be pleased with its quality. The front flap features the silly smiling metallic silver robot stitched applique. Both the front flap and side pockets have reinforced magnetic closures. Got gadgets? There are plenty of pockets for your cell phone, abacus, and camera.
The only downside is that there's no protective padding, so you'll need to pack your laptop in a padded sleeve, just in case you find yourself tumbling down a flight of stairs into the subway, or hanging out a window from the 10th floor of your office. Regardless, you'll find strangers smiling as they catch that robot from the corner of their eyes.
Price: $80 at Shanalogic.com.
