In the future: Power your cell phone with your shirt

piezoelectric.gif

The word "functional," as it relates to clothing, may take on a whole new meaning in the near future, when your hi-tech shirt will not only wick moisture and keep mosquitos away, but will also power your portable devices. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, researchers in Australia are developing a shirt that generates electricity when you move. These power shirts (which may be out in 5 years) will be made of piezoelectric materials which create an electrical charge with movement. That charge is then directed to flexible batteries woven into the shirt. You plug your cell phone or other small device into the shirt, and voila, you've got power.
