Pomegranate Madness

A few months ago, after a lunch meeting with some folks from Microsoft to preview Windows Mobile 6, our esteemed editor-in-chief, Mia, and I went on a midtown Manhattan shopping stint. During this little trek, Mia introduced me to Missha, a Korean retailer of skin care products that focuses on high quality products without the high cost of extravagant packaging or advertising factored in. While there, I pick up a new product, a pomegranate body cleanser, as I was intrigued by its purported anti-oxidant properties.
That’s when it all began. My new found obsession with pomegranate body washes started that very day. I don’t know why. I don’t know where. I just know that I decided I had to search out and test them all.
Interestingly enough, the next subject of my testing involved my next visit with Mia. While on a visit to spend some quality time with Mia and our esteemed publisher, Hoyun, it occurred to me shortly after arriving that I had forgotten to bring the Missha wash with me. We went to dinner soon after I arrived and browsed around some local stores while waiting for a table. As a longtime fan of the Origins skin care line, I was excited to find an Origins store nearby because I knew that they, too, had a pomegranate body wash.
A this point, I was full-on crazed. After some intense web research and a couple of shopping trips, I was ready for several weeks’ worth of showers! Following are the brands I’ve tested (and essentially all the most popular out there) so far and my thoughts on each. If anyone can recommend any others for me to try, I’m all ears.
Missha Pomegranate Body Cleanser – Great lather. Has the whole ‘cleansing without stripping’ feel going on. Fragrant, yet not fruity – probably the most accurately scented. Others mix in complimentary scents to make theirs more of an olfactory experience.
Origins Pomegranate Wash Bubbling Body Cleanser – Hands down, the best smelling of them all. Yes, it has other fruit scents mixed in, but when they make you want to eat it, they’ve done something right. Comes in a tube, which is nice for travel.
Archipelago Botanicals Pomegranate Body Wash – Best overall product. I felt like I had a deep cleansing experience without overdrying my skin. This one actually felt like there had been some antioxidant benefit to my skin after using it. Like the Missha, it has a more fragrant vs. fruity bouquet.
Philosophy Ultra-Rich 3-in-1 Shampoo, Shower Gel, and Bubble Bath – Guess I have to give this one the award for most versatile. Nice lather. Very, very sweet fragrance – almost candy-like.
Bath and Body Works Midnight Pomegranate Body Wash – Best value. Solid product. Fragrance is noticeably different from all the others. Smells like they added in musk to make this a sensual “midnight” fragrance best suited for bubble baths for two.
