USB doorbell plays your own chime

USBdoorbell.jpg

Now that you've got all your music saved on your computer's hard disk, what are you going to do with it? Well, if you really like adding a personalised touch to all your gadgets, you might want to pick up the USB doorbell so that you can set your own music or other sound file as your doorbell chime.

Setting it up sounds easy enough: plug the USB doorbell into your computer, copy the sound file onto it, plug it into your doorbell wiring - and you'll have your favourite piece of music (or most annoying sound effect) alert you every time someone pushes the doorbell.

Some things it is not: It's not a wireless system and it can only store one 30-second WAV or MP3 sound file, so it's not like you can fit a whole album of music onto it. Also, it's not a replacement for the doorbell; in fact, it requires an existing pre-wired low-voltage doorbell system to operate.

But the USB connector makes it (relatively) easy to change door chimes when you get bored with it, so you could easily have it ring with a different tune for special occasions, such as seasonal holiday tunes or a happy-birthday jingle. I guess you could even have it howl like a guard dog if you'd really prefer that visitors, well, go away.

Available for $99.99 at ThinkGeek.
