Mondo Mint Digital Music System

As you know, at Popgadget we're always thinking of you and the choices you're making, so we try to get our hands on as many new products as we can and take them out for a spin. The downside for the writer is that sometimes you get abnormally attached to a product that you have to send back.

Such is the case with the new Mondo Mint digital sound system we just got. It's Mondo sound on a mini budget. Not only does it sound amazing, like a system easily twice it's price, it also features a beautiful, elegant design, which could go anywhere. At the moment, it only comes in white, but I suspect the company will make a black version as well.

Basically, the Mint unit is an iPod speaker system that includes a wireless iPod base station that can broadcast your music at distances of up to 100 feet from the speaker's base station/amplifier (which also includes an iPod dock) using the included remote. The heart of the system is the Class-D digital mini amplifier which powers 70 watts at 4 ohms per channel and can drive 4-8 ohm speakers, resulting in strong highs, mids and bass, plus great stereo separation.

What sets this modern DMS (digital music system) apart from it's competitors is the 2 piano-white speakers which are closer to a home theatre sound set-up than a dinky home stereo. I've blasted all sorts of music -- Trance to rock n' roll and it even handles the bass on such new classics as the Teddybears "Cobrastyle" with leftover energy to spare. If anything, I'd like to adjust the bass at times, but that's not an option.

Try switching to the wirless dock and there's no depreciation in sound, and you can be on the patio and change playlists without walking back to the main unit (as long as your patio is within 100 ft.).

Don't run out to buy it today -- the Mondo Mint is not available until June 11. And at $349 you won't have to break open that piggy bank.

Or, you can sign up for our free emails, if you haven't already, and WIN one in the next few weeks. See, always thinking of you.
