The Popgadget iPhone of Hate (win an iPhone!)

I don't actually hate the iPhone, I still mostly love it, but after finally accomplishing the Herculean task of actually switching phone providers so I could use the iPhone, I do hate every single cell phone company out there. In fact, my new goal in life is to establish a cell phone company that, instead of forcing you into years-long contracts with the threat of huge penalty fees, will keep customers with good customer service by people who actually seem to understand what they're talking about, and not adding bs fees and nonsense taxes that inexplicably leave you with a $200 phone bill on what is supposedly a $60 phone plan.
My attempts to keep a number I'd had on Sprint for over 10 years and port to an AT&T iPhone account has led to the creation of FOUR extra lines of service spanning across three mobile carriers, and approximately $900 in extra fees in just under a month. I'd give details but I might start to have flashbacks and start destroying every cell phone in my path.
But my hatred and desire for schadenfreudic catharsis could win you an iPhone, complete with several designer cases. Send an email to me (mia(at)popgadget.net) with the subject line "iPhone of Hate" and tell me about your worst cell phone customer service experience. Details and emotional outbursts are very welcome. You must be a subscriber to our newsletter to win, so make sure you sign up first. The winning entry will be posted on August 1, 2007. Good luck and happy hating!

I Blog, therefore I am: the Sony blog

Everyone's doing it, and now monster companies are finally realizing blogging is a good way to connect with their customers, and sure, along the way, maybe sell more products. Sony just launched their blog this week . Color us not surprised that two women are spear heading Sony's "Social Media Strategy."
In order to understand this initiative, I spoke with Marcy Cohen, who is with Sony Electronics Corporate Communications.
"With the growth and impact of the internet, we realized we needed to be more proactive and have a dialogue with the customer " says the 6 and a half year veteran of the company. "It gives a face to the company and also helps us learn about the customer through unfiltered comments. Besides comments and feedback, we'll have regular contributors ...guest bloggers. Ultimately, we expect it will benefit the consumer."
