Steel Onion Holder from Norpro

There's never really a time when I do not need onions in my kitchen. However, as all of us are painfully aware, cutting them is no easy task. Firstly, there are those tears that threaten to drown you in the kitchen. Fortunately, the Onion Goggles that we had covered earlier, along with some grandma's tips (popular example - soak the onions before cutting them) make that problem somewhat manageable. However, the more irritating problem for me is the pungent smell left over on my hands long after I am done with the task. Now, I love onions in my dishes but this smell is something else. Even after hard and long bouts of scrubbing with powerful cleansers, the odor still lingers on. For all onion-smell-on-your-hands sufferers like me, Norpro has an onion holder as a solution. Done up completely in stainless steel, this nifty looking device ensures that you never have to really touch the onion while cutting it. Just pierce the onion with it and start slicing between the prongs with a knife. Obviously, this can only be used to slice onions and the chopping part of it will continue to be as challenging as ever. Sigh! Nonetheless, for eight bucks this should make for a useful tool in your kitchen.

You might want to try using toothpaste to get rid of that nasty smell after you're done playing with your food.

For the smell, try rubbing some salt on your hand and then just washing under the tap. You'd be surprised at how well it works! :)
