The fully waterproof video cam- Sanyo Xacti E1

I think we've all been fooled by cameras or camera cases dubbed "water-resistent" or "splash-proof" and thought it'd be okay to just take it into the ocean a little bit and then had a wave topple us over and killed the camera the second it was fully submerged. Okay, maybe I'm the only one dumb enough to have done something like that, but I'm always very suspicious of anything claiming to be "weather-proof" because it usually just means that a few raindrops won't completely destroy it.

Sanyo's new Xacti E1, on the other hand, is fully submersible up to 5 feet, for up to an hour at a time. It's in the familiar Xacti camcorder shape, but comes in blue, yellow, or white. I love the Xacti series, the HD-2 is my personal video camera and my primary still camera as well. The E1, like all the Xactis, is a great hybrid of of camcorder and still cam, because it takes high-quality video (up to 640x480, and iPod compatible H.264 mp4 format) and excellent 6 megapixel still shots.

Rugged OtterBox case for Treo 680, 750 and 755p

Owners of Treo models 680, 750 and 755p who've been coveting the dark, macho Otterbox cases that have been available for the BlackBerry 8700 series as well as earlier Treo models, can soon dress up their smart phones in similar style. Made to withstand harsh climates and/or work conditions, the OtterBox 1921 is made of durable polycarbonate/ABS and rubber overmolding for grip and drop protection, while allowing you to use your keypad touch screen, and other buttons. Like other OtterBox cases, this one shields your Treo from dust and water (though it's not made for use underwater).

The information on the OtterBox website makes me wish I worked in an outdoor environment that required a rugged case like this every day. Still, even a mostly armchair lifestyle can be risky to devices -- there are coffee spills, tumbles downs the stairs, and run-ins with the car dashboard to consider.

Right now you can sign up on the OtterBox website to be notifed when the OtterBox 1921 becomes available. No pricing information yet, but I'm guessing it'll be priced similar to the OtterBox 1920 for Treo 650, 700w and 700p, which sells for $129.
