Protect thumbs from hammers with the ThumbSaver
![]()
Gardening and I mix very well, with the result that my green thumb is regarded highly in the family circle. However, given my pathetic performance in fixing things around the house, it doesn't take much time for the thumb color to shift over to red. After each such "thumb accident," I've always wondered why no one has come up with a way to avoid bruising while performing such a common and repetitive task as hammering a nail. Well, looks like someone peeped into my head and came up with a solution - the ThumbSaver.
As with many good products, the design of the ThumbSaver makes you think, "Hey, why didn't I think of that?" This simple tool consists of an aluminum shaft with a strong magnet at one end and a comfortable rubberised grip at the other. All you need to do is pick up a nail or screw with the magnetic end and start hammering away while your fingers reside at a comfortable distance from the action. The company claims that it can be used on a variety of tasks ranging from craft work to building fences. Personally, I'm sure it can handle quite easily the kind of work that we do around the house, making it a must-have for your toolbox.
Available in two sizes (7.5" and 6"), the ThumbSaver is available from AwesomeTools.com for $12.95.

Now if only they would build that into the hammer, so they could both be stored together. I will never be able to find both items at the same time!

If you don't feel like spending $13 on something you would probably lose, just poke the nail through a piece of paper or cardboard and there you have your own-improvised nail holder.
