Green Resistor Triplets Necklace

I am usually not a big fan of jewelry made out of used (or new) electronic parts; I find them generally too clunky for my taste and not particularly wearable. The Green Resistor Triplets Necklace though is surprisingly nice and definitely something I could see myself wearing. The little green resistors can be recognized as such only from a close distance and can be easily mistaken doe "precious" beads crafted together in a very elegant design. The necklace is available for $120 at fractalspin, where you can also purchase a pair of matching earrings for $15. (They also ship to Europe).

3-in-1 Breakfast Maker

Convergence gadgets are all the rage these days, with various devices breaking free from their conventional functions with the hope that someday, somehow, they will become everything to everyone. So far, cell phones have been leading the way, adopting digital-camera and MP3 capabilities so quickly that they've practically become industry standards.
Well, unbeknownst to me, it turns out that kitchen appliances have been not only begrudging the overachieving successes of cell phones but also working on something to rival the multitasking masters: the 3-in-1 Breakfast Maker by Sunpentown.
Stainless steel and heat-resistant glass have been expertly fused together to form the ultimate breakfast machine. Combining a 4-cup coffee maker, nonstick frying pan, and 5-liter toaster oven, the appliance is compact (16" x 9.5" x 9.75"), affordable ($68.95), and--best of all--comes with no annual contract or hidden fees.

Creature speakers

Harmon made a big splash with their iSub SoundSticks way back in 2000. I immediately dug their slightly mutant jelly fish appearance.
I recently saw their new joint effort with JBL. No surprises here, the Creature II ceramic speakers are really a great execution of design. The series also come in Black, Aluminum and Red. It has a mini-stereo jack so you can hook it up to your mp3 player, computer or portable stereo.
It retails for $129.99 but can be found for less on amazon.com.
This is a very tempting excuse to fight the winter blues by buying new equipment, even if -- or maybe because -- they look a little like the ghosts from Pac-Man.

Your plant is on line two

Imagine if your plants could call you when they are thristy. (I'm not sure I want my plants calling me). American Inventor Spot explains it this way:
Botanicalls is a project using ten plants connected to soil moisture sensors - a sensor is made of two nails and a circuit- which send the plants' information (such as moisture levels) to an arduino board which then passes the information to an Xbee network. An Xport is used to send data via PHP to a mySQL database and to Asterisk (an open-source telephone system), which then makes the phone call. When the owner picks up the phone her plant (an automated voice) will let her know how thirsty it is.
The brainchild of a group of students from NYU, their site Botanicalls, lists a number you can call to "talk" to some of the plants who have made recent requests.
Meanwhile, your ficus wants a chat and sounds pretty pissed.

Crocheted cuties for iPods and cell phones

Cute! These crocheted cuties can be used for your iPod or iPod video. Made of yarn, buttons, and "googly eyes" (for the frog) you can dress up or down, but either way your iPod will look fabulous. The website that sells these cuties currently only offers one size, but indicates that there is a "mini" version available that will fit iPod minis and mobile phones. As if these crocheted cuties could get even cuter!
