The Patagonia wetsuit: an unofficial update

Did you know that Patagonia, the eco-aware maker of clothing and sportswear, has created its own line of environmentally friendly wetsuits? The Regulator, as it's called, is made from 80% non-petroleum based ingredients, recycled polyester, and silicone knee pads instead of PVC. It's also lined with unbleached merino wool. Key to the equation is the warmth provided by the standard 3mm suit which compares to wetsuits nearly twice as thick. Now the Patagonia Regulator has won a recent award from EuroSIMA for technical innovation, but the Regulator is still only available exclusively at Patagonia's Cardiff-by-the-Sea store. This means that most people have not seen these highly anticipated wetsuits and actual reports about how they fare in the water are near absent. Recently however, a fan has posted his own site about the Regulator suit he purchased here: patagoniawetsuits.com. It's hard to tell if the website is truly fan-made or an attempt at viral marketing, but either way, it's great to get a glimpse of a product which is heading in the right direction towards technology integration and environmental concern.
