I was kicking through the October Bazaar, and came across a full page ad for the Taköhl Treasure Ring. Tammy Kohl creates bespoke jewelry for Hollywood starlets, but her most popular designs have been rings that incorporate a hinged band that opens to display a hidden message.

Every internal message is hand engraved and brush enameled for readability. Depending on the size of the ring there are roughly 48 spaces in which to place your innermost thoughts on the interior of band. On one band I was able to fit both "I LOVE YOU SWEETHEART," and "YOU SMELL LIKE COOKIES" with four spaces left over for flush mounted gemstones.

Prices are a bit on the steeper side. The most basic band model is $1,200, and the nicest platinum designs start around $8,500. Gold bands are available in both 14 & 18kt and all three color options (white, yellow, and rose).

Each internally engraved letter is a $6 character, and the .04 carat stones set within the message run from $30 semi-precious birthstones to $80 VS diamonds. The master stones in the top of the setting run the price gamut from "ice chip" 2mm lab created gemstone flakes to 1.5ct diamonds; these rings can work well for shoppers making serious purchases as well as those buying noncommittal jewelry.
