Baby Hammock
We all love hammocks, and it turns out, so do babies. Apparently, hammocks are good for them too:
Hammocks are also useful in helping the proper development of the spine and hip joints. A hammock offers all-over support for the back and does not force the baby into a specific position.
You install the hammock in the playpen (see photo) for babies between 0 and 4 months. In case the older sibling is jealous, they also offer vertical seat-style, suitable for kids up to around 10 years.
Available at one of my favorite sites, thinkingliving.

Doesn't this seem a bit on the "insanely stupid" side? I mean, I certainly wouldn't put it past an infant to try crawling out of a hammock. And if you're not watching your child, what's to stop her from hanging herself?
I wouldn't go NEAR this. My child slept in a flat crib with as few "anythings" in the crib as possible. (She has more things in with her now that she's older)

We used a hammock for our baby and no..they DON'T crawl out of them, especially at 4 months which is the max age for the one listed.
They have been used for many centuries in many cultures.
My babers loved it...the gentle sway, the hugging of the fabric which mimics the hugging of the womb he was so accustomed to.
I don't think it is "insanely stupid" in the least.

I raised both of my children in hammocks which were hung diagonally across my bed. They both slept in them until they were 6 months old. they were safe and slept very comfortably without falling out. Our western culture finds it difficult to except this tradition yet many children and parents in other parts of the world,[extensively in south america] have been receiving the benefits of sleeping in hammocks for a very long time
