(NP)Laserpod

Call it lava lamp, call it mood lighting, call it whatever you want, but the Laserpod is definitely the lava/mood lighting lamp for the modern day hippie and techno geek. Designed by UK light artist Chris Levine, the Laserpod uses three electronic lasers and three blue and purple LEDs (light emitting diodes), so that the combination of their wavelengths as a background to the red laser gives a super sensory experience.

The product comes with one tall and one small diffuser, which create a soothing, ambient lamp. But who wants soothing ambient light when you can get supposedly awe-inspiring visual magic with the diffusers off, with lightforms radiating and projecting across an entire room and over great distances! It is suggested that the Laserpod be activated in complete darkness for a more extraordinary and unique experience.

But wait! There’s more! You can even use your own materials, such as glass or crystal, to create and experiment with even more beautiful effects.

List price for each Laserpod is US $100.00 but you can get it at Think Geek for US $89.99. Check out the movie on the Laserpod company site. Pretty cool looking.

Dan Neuman:

I bought a Laserpod from Think Geek several months ago. While it is indeed euphoria-inducing, it is not very bright. You'll need a darkened room to see anything on the walls or ceiling.

The downside of the device is that it uses a small motor to turn the internal crystal. I've found that the motor makes a lot of noise after leaving it on for more than a day, and sometimes even seizes up. This is particularly true if you tilt the base to get a better wall-show.

They may have improved the design since I bought mine, or my experience may be atypical.
