Attention: Playing Mario can get you arrested!

box.jpg

Of all the videogames I would have thought somebody could get arrested for attempting to play a real life version of, Mario Bros would have definitely been among the last ones on my list.

In times where innocent cardboard boxes left unattended on the street constitute a potential threat, trying to build a Mario-like environment around your neighborhood could get you in a lot of trouble.

The five teenage girls from Portage County in Ohio, who where apparently so bored with their lives that they decided to make and place Mario-like boxes all over town, are now facing potential criminal charges .

The Portage County Hazardous Materials Unit and Bomb Detection Unit were called in to downtown Ravenna on Friday morning after seventeen suspicious packages -- boxes wrapped in gold wrapping paper with question marks spray painted on them -- had alarmed residents.

Camila FS:

Isn't this a April's 1st joke? Look at the date of the news.

And the tanning center you've posted below is listed on the wikipedia's april 1st list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/April_1,_2006

(:

Maria B.:

I can't believe that! Innocent Super Mario boxes believed to have bombs? Fire Flowers, maybe...

Seriously, though, I've seen similar projects done in other cities, some with actual cardboard power-ups hidden within. I was even thinking of doing something similar to that in my town, but people might freak and call the bomb squad here too...
