Sling Media Slingbox

It’s bad enough that I can no longer stay awake late enough to watch the real news, these days I am so busy working that it’s cutting into my fake news! (Daily Show fans can relate). My dream is to get my PC, which has a lovely screen to which I am attached to most of the time, to transmit my shows, then I could work and get my fix at the same time. (I am a woman so this multitasking feat is built right into my genetic makeup.)
I have been hearing bits and pieces on the Sling Media Slingbox and am intrigued by what it can do. The Slingbox is set up with your media gear at home and once it's hooked into your broadband and cable provider you can stream TV to your PC. Slingbox also introduced yesterday the SlingPlayer Mobile software as part of a public beta program for Slingbox owners for mobile phones and PDAs, which will be available April 26th. You're not going to have a digital theater experience with this thing, but for watching the Daily Show or catching up on other shows, this is the way to go. The box is whiz bang to set up (although it is not wireless enabled). So for around $249 you can make your PC a TV. Magic I say.

Neil Gaiman has talked about this a bit on his blog (See these links and he seems to think it works rather well. I'm not jetting all over the world the way he is but I like the idea that I could be watching one thing from our DVR in the bedroom on my laptop while the boyfriend uses the boheamth in the living room. I think it would work that way because the cable box has its own dual tuner. Also, Amazon has it for $219.99.
