Space Pak for shoes
Who else, besides me, throws their shoes in a plastic grocery bag before packing them away in a suitcase? I swore that one of these days I was going to get some proper packing cases for my shoes that might help them from getting squashed by the time I claimed my luggage at baggage check. These Shoe Paks are the perfect thing. They're structured cases, as opposed to bags, so it might further help protect your shoes from the squash factor and it will keep the rest of your packed clothes clean. At home, they make nice storage cases to protect those special pair of shoes from dust, pets, and in my case, curious toddlers.

Oh, it's about time someone came up with something like this! I also always throw my shoes in a grocery bag when packing for a trip. One time a maid accidentally threw out the bag when it was lying on the hotel room floor. I had to scrounge around looking for another bag to use...and ended up using the plastic laundry bag the hotel provides for you in the closet.

Or you can tuck items in your shoes and shove them into men's gym socks to prevent scuffing. I think this tip was from Real Simple.
You can pack extra pairs of socks in your shoes or anything else squishable. If you're worried about cleanliness, pop it in a sandwich-sized ziplock before putting the items in your shoes.
