Doggie snow boots

It's been years since I've seen this kind of snowfall (something like 30 inches in New York City!) and my dogs have definitely never walked through this much snow before. Since they're not used to it, it's been really hard to get them to walk in it. It's totally understandable, of course, since I'm asking them to walk barefoot through piles of ice crystals. I don't know if it will be any easier to get them into these Muttluk boots, but it will be worth a try to keep their paws warm and free of salt and antifreeze. The yellow all-weather Muttluks are waterproof with a leather toe cover, adjustable hook and loop straps covered in reflective material, and specially treated salt and water resistant leather bottoms. They come in sizes from "itty-bitty" to "xx large". Prices range from $37 to $43, depending on size.

I wanted to say goodbye to another one of my snow dogs, an important, although behind-the-scenes founder of Popgadget. Shasta Bear Kim, 9 years and 10 months old, died on Friday. She couldn't write, and had no interest in gadgets unless she thought she might be able to eat them, but she was instrumental in starting this site. She provided endless encouragement through feet warming, waking me up with an icy nose in my ear, and tolerating being held in my lap for hours or dancing through my 80's playlists. I'd do anything for a gadget that would bring you back to me. Thanks, Shasta, I will see you again someday.

I'm sorry about Shasta. It sounds like both of you were lucky to have each other.

Mia, I am so, so sorry about Shasta. I know you will see her again someday, and I know that while she's waiting, she's with other dogs, playing in a field full of extremely slow and sluggish squirrels, cats, and rabbits.
Milkshake sends a woof to you, Mojo, and Shasta too.
Love,
Katie

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal
dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to
Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so
they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine,
and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;
those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we
remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy
and content, except for one small thing - they each miss someone very special
to them who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the
day
comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are
intent, his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly he begins to run from the
group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you
cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses
rain upon your face, your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look
once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but
never absent from your heart.
Then....you cross Rainbow Bridge....together.

Hi. I read your site everyday and this one touched my heart. It was so weird....I looked at those booties and they reminded me of my dog that we lost a few months ago. We used them to try to help him from slipping on our hardwood floors. Needless to say, he hated them and kicked them off (he looked like he was boxing!). Anyway, I scrolled down a little further and low and behold....there he was. Shasta reminds me so much of my Shadow. He was an American Eskimo!
I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and It is so heartbreaking to lose a pet. But, you know, they are all in a huge dog park in the sky....going to the bathroom wherever they please, eating anything in the world, and turning everything into a toy!

I'm so sorry for your loss, she looked like she was a beautiful dog. Wet noses and a comforting tongue slurp to you from my toy poodle, Constance - my constant supervisor.

Thank you, everyone, for your words of comfort. She's going to be missed so much.
Maybe Shasta is playing with your hedgehog, Noelle. I hope so. I'm sorry for your loss.
Meredith- my first eskimo was named Shadow. They're the greatest little dogs, but all that fur on their paws definitely makes them clumsy. I hope you are full of happy memories now of your Shadow, and feeling okay. Thanks for your message.

Sorry for your loss, pet losses can be very rough for everyone..
I backpack quite a bit, and we take a lab with us... He constantly kicks off booties.. Nothing like putting the boots on and hiking a mile or so, and then noticing the dog isnt wearing a bootie here or there... /sigh
