Beautifying webcams

BuffaloWebCam.jpg

As much time as I spend chatting online with friends, I've never once felt the need for a webcam. I mean, isn't one of the advantages of the Internet the possibility of interacting with the outside world while at your slobbiest?

If, unlike me, you could be bothered to take the time to look presentable for a video chat, you would probably love these two webcams from Japan. Dubbed "beauty cams" by CNet Asia's Mobile Ojisan, they promise to make the beauty-conscious look their best for the web camera.

Both webcams claim the ability to make users look "fairer and more beautiful" onscreen. I guess it would be tragic if women who've spent thousands of dollars worth on cosmetics for the same effect were to be defeated by an unflattering webcam. Buffalo's BHC-35H03B (above) uses a spotlight and automatic white balance adjustment, while Elecom's UCAM-E1W30TNWH performs real-time image retouching on you (below).
