Singelringen: single power

singlering.jpg
The holiday of coupledom, Valentine's Day, is around the corner, and can be oppressive for anyone who isn't one half of a pair. What about everyone who is single, very often happily so? Why not celebrate the freedom of independence or let the world know that you are open and available (though never ever desperate, of course)? The Swedish company Singelringen, makes rings that let you proudly show your single status. As the company website says, "if anyone needs to signal one's civil status, it's a single". Each blue ring has a unique number, so you can register it and become a member of the Singelringen community, ostensibly setting up the possibility of letting you meet other Singelringeners. Maybe it's not the safest idea, but kind of a cool one- the idea of meeting up with someone because your serial numbers coordinate in some way. Dating can be such a crap shoot anyway...

Another feature of the site: the ability to send an anonyous email to your crush of unknown relationship status. Singelringen will send the object of your affection an email asking them if they are available. Once they respond, you get an encouraging email letting you know their status and wishing you luck. It'd be even better if they asked for reasons why- like "my crazy meds aren't working", "In love with my mother", "determining my sexual orientation, check back later", etc...

Singelringen
is available for $49, and is available in many countries in Europe and Asia, as well as the US.

Janine:

"dating can be such a crap shoot"...boy you sure got that right :)

Emma:

I just came back from a cruise where I wore my Singelringen and it was a great conversation starter. I wish on the single men on the ship had such a clear identifier. Someday soon, I hope!
