Amplified iPod speaker bags
Felicidade's Groove Bag was a big media hit last year, although I've never seen anyone actually using one. I'm afraid that all these bags that showcase the iPod in clear casing like it's a little work of art are just inviting someone to come and snatch your bag. Also, while the bag had a certain retro-modern, ugly-cool appeal, the speakers were weak and there was no amplifier so you couldn't even inflict your musical taste on anyone who wasn't standing within a few feet of you. The new Groove Bag Plus Triplet looks nearly identical, but now includes a battery-powered (takes 4 AA) amplifier to boost the .5 watt speakers. There are pockets for the ac adapter and a special side zipper that lets you connect your iPod to your computer without removing it from the bag. The new Groove Bag Plus Triplet is available for $185 from iPodAccessories.
The more discreet Podblaster isn't trying to be a purse, it's just a carrying case with speakers. It'll hold most mp3 players that are roughly iPod-sized in its front sleeve. The case will accomodate all manner of cables, chargers, and other accessories. These speakers are more powerful, 6 watt total, and there's a 2 watt amplifier. The podblaster is also powered by 4 AA batteries, but there's also a connector for powering via USB. The Podblaster is $49.95 at Wishingfish.
