Revenge of the Female Nerds

Annalee Newitz's "Revenge of the Female Nerds: Busting media and industry myths about why women can't be technical" talk at Harvard Law School last week generated a few interesting 'blogher' accounts.

Newitz called on female nerds to go forth and propogate memes, and that they did:

*Beth's Blog: Beth "liveblogged" the lecture, provides stats and additional links, and has a rockin' comments section. Link.

*Deborah E. Finn, who writes Technology for the Nonprofit and Philanthropic Sector, posted a brief account, at one point describing the talk as "wishful thinking." Link.

*Newitz recently wrote an AlterNet column about William Bright's nastygram experiences with SF's BART and NYC's MTA due to his digital distribution of copyrighted maps on ipodsubwaymaps.com. Link.

UPDATE: harvard.free.culture posted a realmedia stream of the Newitz's talk. Link.

Thanks for the link! I'm glad to discover your blog, looks fabulous!

Thanks for the links those are really cool. Nerdy. I'm joining the math club.

Like my fellow Technobabe, Beth Kanter, I'd like to thank you for linking to my blog.

I'd also like to say that my response to Annalee's talk was generally very positive.

Many thanks and best regards from Deborah
