XM Satellite Radio to launch women's channel "Take Five"
Next month, XM Satellite Radio will launch a new women's lifestyle channel called "Take Five," with programming to include broadcasts of the Ellen DeGeneres Show and the Tyra Banks Show as well as original content from the Food Network and HGTV. As part of the launch and the new season of her show, Ellen DeGeneres will give away Pioneer AirWare XM2go portable satellite radio receivers to the studio audience (I wonder if there's still time to get tickets).
With Amy Reyer (who previously ran her own production company) hired as director of women's programming, the goal is to expand the reach of these shows outside the home.
Original XM programming will include a show hosted by Judith Warner, author of the book, "Perfect Madness: Motherhood in the Age of Anxiety." Other original shows will be announced prior to launch.
Query: What about tech programming? Wouldn't that be a natural fit for a female audience of early adopters who are listening to satellite radio?
