I get gadget crushes constantly, but almost never fall in love. But tonight, I am absolutely ready to commit to the mobiBLU DAH 1500i MP3 player, also known as the Cube. It is a super tiny thing (weighing just over half an ounce), a little bigger than a standard die, smaller than an ice cube. PC Magazine (which gives my love a rave review) warns that small children might actually think that the Cube is candy and try to eat it and that's not an exaggeration; I was tempted to take a taste myself.

I'm glad I resisted and listened to it instead. While most "pendant" style MP3 players are still a little too bulky to actually wear around your neck, the Cube's necklace/headphone combo actually looks okay, maybe even almost cool. Sound quality is very very good. Even the earphones sound pretty good, not the kind you ought to toss out immediately. The sound was even better with Bose QuietComfort headphones, great bass and no distortion, even when cranked.

The OLED screen is beautiful and bright, and the controls look like a dime-sized click wheel. The Cube supports MP3 and WMA (including Windows DRM) files and lets you set up playlists. There's an FM tuner with 20 station presets, and FM recording. Also a built-in mic for voice recording.

I was charmed by how tiny and cute this player is, but truly impressed by how well it works. I'm borrowing one from MobiBLU but I need to make it mine.

The 512 MB and 1 GB models are $99 and $129, respectively at Walmart.
