So the Siggraph 2005 Cyberfashion show as always, was a mixed bag of high-tech, raver, and S&M chic. And yet, with the Mistress of Ceremonies, Pysmbiote (aka Isa Gordon) holding court, nothing about the show is ever ordinary. This is definitely true of the fantastical works by Janet Hansen, founder and CEO of Enlighted Designs. Dr. Hansen has advanced degrees in Bioengineering, but her true passion is fashion, having started Enlighted Designs in 1998.

While some people might dismiss illuminated clothing as clich/(c) or reductive, Hansen takes the typical rave and burning man aesthetic and elevates it into something more. An Enlighted ensemble is typically exquisitely crafted and employs clever techniques to integrate countless numbers of LEDs or lengths of EL wire into a garment. The result is something which distinguishes her work and makes Enlighted clothing a treat to see and experience.

There were many Enlighted designs on the runway at the Cyberfashion show. One, called the silver corset dress had the entire bodice covered in LED lights. Certainly something to save for a festive occasion, but beautiful nonetheless.
