what have you done with your old cassette tapes?
If you had a vision like Alyce Santoro, you would weave audio cassette tapes into fabric...and then play them! Inspired by Tibetan prayer flags inscribed with wind-activated blessings, Alyce started recording ambient sounds and then started knitting with the tape. One thing led to another and now her tapes are woven with cotten to create beautiful, durable fabrics that have been sewn into dresses, bags and flags (her original intent). The fabrics have also been played using specially designed tape heads, something she originally didn't think was possible. The good news for the rest of us is that we can order the fabric by the yard or a swatch kit for $50 bucks if you are curious and want to experiment!
