Tampons with attitude
As a part of Barbara Carey's grand plan to kick down menstrual taboos, a tampon bowling game for the boys has been launched and college students deemed "tampon ambassadors" are spreading the word about Ditties, her tampons with girl power-type messages on their wrappers, like fortune cookies.
"It makes your day better, the little messages," tampon ambassador Tara Meyer explains. "It makes you think of better things when you're on your period."
Tampon ambassadors put Dittie boxes in school bathrooms, make presentations to their classes and pitch the product at store sampling events.
Barbara Carey's crusade for tampons started the day she found herself in the tampon aisle in front of boxes that all looked like something out of the medicine cabinet. "At that point, I went after just an absolute mission to make women feel better," Carey declares. "And all of [a] sudden, my life changed. I ended up having this mission inside me to change the way women perceive their periods."
Btw, France did something similar in the 80's ;-)
