Smell and taste what's on your screen

Trisenx has created a device called the Scent Dome that allows users to smell products sold online, or create and e-mail their own scents. There are different scent cartridges for different purposes, or you could customise your own. You use it by plugging it into the serial port of your PC and installing their Senxware software. (Via Now Smell This.)

If this sounds familiar to you, you might be thinking of the Kaori Web System, another scent dispenser for computers. Created by K. Opticom, the server sends the attached scent diffuser a signal to release the appropriate scent, prepared beforehand, to match what you are currently viewing online. (Via CNetAsia.) Or you might be thinking of Telewest Broadband's ScentMail. Plug in their version of a "scent dome", and you can send and receive special codes via internet that translate into specific smells. The diffuser sprays them into the air around the PC. (Read more about similar technology on we make money not art.)

Any one of these, IMO, are greatly preferable to the TasteScreen, especially considering what dust-magnets monitors are. This USB device, with 20 plastic flavour cartridges, is mounted on top of your monitor, and drips controlled quantities of flavouring down the screen, coating it with a thin film of liquid.
